Juniors

5-8 Yrs Old – Red Level

  • 5-8 Years Old
  • 36' Court
  • Red Compression Balls
  • 19-23" Racquet

Skills Developed

For 5-6 year olds the emphasis is on age appropriate skills, including movement skills, throwing and receiving skills, and an introduction to court movement, agility training, and coordination drills with tennis related games and fun. This class focuses on the skills needed before players can be introduced to tennis.

For 7-8 year olds the emphasis is on advancing pre-tennis skills and introducing tennis specific court movement, agility training, stroke production, and beginning match play.

All junior players will need to purchase a Player Equipment Bag with personal equipment to use during class. This bag should be purchased in the Pro Shop prior to the first day of class. In addition, please bring a water bottle/jug and a tennis racquet sized by age.  For this level the racquet should be 19″-23″ long, based on the height of the player. Players need to wear a skirt/shorts/leggings with pockets to hold balls and tennis court shoes with non-marking soles.  Tennis racquets, junior clothing and shoes are sold in our pro shop.

Class sizes are limited to no more than 4 players per instructor. Unfortunately due to this limited class size we are unable to accommodate make ups for missed classes unless we do not teach the class. If we have inclement weather we may move the classes to our indoor courts.

Red Level is for players who are 5-8 years old. Players learn on a 36 ft. court with a smaller net, red compression balls and a 19″- 23″ racquet. We offer classes that meet once a week for 8 weeks. There is a maximum of 4 players per instructor.

7-8 yr olds will participate in WORLD TOUR TEAM TENNIS on Sundays. Players are put on teams and compete with other players at their level. This is a low pressure team environment to teach match skills.

Southlake Tennis Academy

Southlake Tennis Academy is a skills based program that focuses on age appropriate development.  We assess skill development and move players based on their ability to demonstrate the skills needed to play.  Players who are interested in competitive play beyond Match Day can find a list of the USTA sanctioned tournaments available for their level.  Our teaching staff is happy to suggest the levels of tournament play best suited to your players.
